The President of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, on Thursday, met with the leadership of about 15 commercial banks in the country, directing them to ensure an ample supply of the old ₦200 notes.

This comes after President Buhari’s announcement that only the old ₦200 note will remain a legal tender until April 10, 2023.

Speaking with State House Correspondents following a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the House of Representatives Special Ad Hoc Committee on Naira Redesign Policy, Cashless Policy, and Currency Swap on Thursday, the CBN Governor described himself as a servant, appealing to Nigerians to allow the policy to work because he believes it will bring advancement to the nation’s economy when the challenge of illicit financial flows and insecurity is resolved.

He noted that although the hardship and temporary pains due to the policy are regrettable, the CBN will continue to work to ease the sufferings of Nigerians.
