Eleven delegates from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council, narrowly escaped a serious motor accident on Friday while returning from the union’s presidential and executive elections in Owerri, Imo State.

The accident occurred on the Abuja-Kaduna road when the delegates’ vehicle, driven by the re-elected Zonal Secretary (Zone A), Comrade Abdurrazak Bello Kaura, swerved to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. The oncoming vehicle had veered into their lane due to ongoing road construction.

Zamfara NUJ Secretary, Malam Ibrahim Ahmed Gada, explained: “Our bus jumped to the other lane and brushed against a tanker, causing significant damage to the front and driver’s side of the bus.”

Despite the damage to the vehicle, all delegates were able to exit the bus safely, with only minor injuries reported. “We all walked out of the bus by ourselves,” Gada said, expressing gratitude for their survival.

The damaged bus has since been towed to Kaduna for repairs and will be kept safely pending its reconstruction.
