Electrocution Claims Life of Alleged Transformer Thief in Benue

A suspected transformer thief was electrocuted in Otukpo, Benue State, after vandalizing a transformer on a high-tension pole. The incident occurred near the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) center.

The young man, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, had completed vandalizing the transformer when power was suddenly restored by the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), leading to his electrocution.

The incident reportedly occurred late on Friday, and the lifeless body was found hanging from the high-tension pole on Saturday morning, attracting a large crowd of onlookers. As of the time of reporting, electricity distribution officials were still working to retrieve the body from the pole.

A source stated, “We came this morning and found the body suspended from the electric pole at a transformer with tools in his hand.” The incident highlights the dangers of transformer vandalism and the importance of safeguarding electrical installations.
