The EKO NAFEST 2022 on Thursday officially commenced its interstate local games competition with participants from different parts of the country who gathered at the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Surulere, to compete for medals in the various categories of the competition.
The competition, according to the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Femi Martins, is intended to further showcase the true elegance and grandeur of different cultures in Nigeria as well as identify the various mastery of different games under a healthy competition atmosphere.
He stated that about 12 participating States, namely Lagos, Rivers, Ekiti, Kogi, Ogun, Oyo, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Imo, Ogun and Nasarawa, would compete in ‘Ayo Olopon’ Board game, among others.
According to him: “Apart from the ‘Ayo Olopon’ game which was subdivided into three hurdles for participants to scale through before determining the overall winner, there are other activities which include skills acquisition programme put together to develop and empower participants who are willing to upscale their skills free of charge.
The high point of the event held on Thursday, was the children’s music competition corner where the audience was thrilled with cultural dance by children from Lagos, Oyo, River, Bayelsa, Delta and Ogun State respectively.
Other activities that took place on Day 4 of the ongoing Eko Nafest 2022, include the indigenous fabric and fashion competition, drama competition and indigenous material for interior decoration competition.
The inter-state competition continues as overall winners of the various competitions will be announced at the closing ceremony of EKO NAFEST on Sunday, 13th November, 2022.
