Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has called on all stakeholders in the state to focus more on prevention strategies to combat the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the country.
The First Lady made the call at the 2024 celebration of this year’s edition of the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking held in ado Ekiti , the state capital.
Speaking in her capacity as the State Champion Against Drug Abuse and the State Ambassador of War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), the First Lady express displeasure on the level of drug abuse in the society which has become a global menace.
The guest lecturer at the event, Dr. Adedotun Ajiboye, canvassed for the regulation of sale of pharmaceuticals in open shop and the implementation of evidence based programmes deliberately targeted at curbing abuse of drugs, especially among the youths.
Also, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr Jimlas Ogunsakin appealed to parents and residents to report any suspects in their neighborhood.
The theme of this year’s edition of the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse is “the evidence is clear”
