Eight Alleged Oil Thieves Under EFCC Grill in Rivers

Eight suspected oil thieves are undergoing intense investigation over their activities in parts of Rivers State.

They were apprehended by the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Akiama Road, on Bonny Island, in Bonny Local Government Area on Wednesday, January 10.

Thereafter, the Nigerian Navy handed them over to operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The disclosed was made in a statement on the official X handle of EFCC on Thursday.

It said: “the vessel, MV Cabrini, and her eight crew members were arrested during an operation on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

“They (8 alleged thieves) were arrested with an unquantified amount of illegally acquired Automotive Gas Oil along Bonny Channel.

“The suspects are Tyson Saidi, Emmanuel Memedo, Bamidele Owoeye, Sunday Okenwa, Sanusi Adeola, Kessen Friday, Miebaka Kienka, and Emmanuel Adewole.”

The Naval Hand-Over Officer, Lieutenant Commander G.Y Gwaza explained that the suspected oil thieves are to face further investigation from EFCC and possible prosecution.
