As Nigeria marks the Eid-el Maulud celebrations, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Federal Government to immediately review policies that are perceived to be detrimental to the well-being of Nigerians.

These policies include the hike in petroleum pump prices, increased taxes, and tariffs, all of which, according to the PDP, have had “asphyxiating effects” on the lives of the people.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP joined in celebrating with Nigerians, particularly the Muslim Ummah, on this significant occasion.

The party called on the populace to remain resilient and committed to a “national rebirth” amid the ongoing economic and security challenges, which it attributes to the “anti-people” policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

PDP’s statement emphasized the need for the nation’s leaders to reflect on the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and submit to the will of Allah in their decision-making:

“Eid-el Maulud, the celebration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW), offers humanity and indeed our nation, especially leaders at all levels, the rare opportunity to retrace our steps and submit to the Will of the Almighty Allah in all our dealings as exemplified in the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet.”

The party expressed concern that many Nigerians cannot afford to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones due to economic hardships. It called on government leaders to engage in deep introspection and reconsider policies that are causing pain and hardship for citizens.

The PDP further urged the government to prioritize the welfare of the people by curbing corruption, ending profligacy, and redirecting resources towards projects that have direct impacts on the lives of Nigerians.

“Our Party however urges Nigerians to remain calm, hopeful, and use the occasion of the Eid-el Maulud to show love to one another while praying earnestly for divine intervention in the affairs of the nation,” the PDP said.

Despite the challenges, the PDP extended its best wishes to all Nigerians, especially the Muslim community, and wished them a peaceful and joyous Eid-el Maulud celebration.
