IJEBU –  Ahead of the forthcoming Eid-el-kabir celebration, transport fares within and from ogun state to other parts of the State and outside the state to other state were jacked up yesterday as motor parks recorded a high number of travellers.

Our correspondent, Ositelu Deborah gathered that in Ago-iwoye, Ijebu-ode, Oru area of Ogun State travellers was unable to get vehicles to convey them easily to their destinations due to unavailability of buses and that the transport fare that was initially between #500 to #1, 200 before has been increased to as high as #1000 to #2500 as at the time of filing this report.

Some travellers who spoke to our correspondent said it was merely an exhibition of greed on the part of transporters who use the rush of the festive season to exploit and rip commuters of their hard earned resources.

One of the commuters said, “This is wickedness from transporters who are only interested in enriching their own pockets. This way our country cannot grow, if all we care for is to use every opportunity we have to get richer at the expense of others”.

Notwithstanding, while some travellers have resolved to stay back in the cities to celebrate quietly, others are determined to travel home no matter the cost and means of transport. Some have however deferred their traveling to celebrate the Eid-el-kabir.
