The Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu has urged all motorists to drive safely during and after the Eid El-Kabir celebrations.
Tiamiyu, who made the call during a programme on Radio Lagos 107.5FM, “Ojutaye”, specifically appealed to commercial drivers not to turn the road to a racing track while trying to make multiple trips within a day in an effort to maximise profit, saying “Lives lost in the course of over-speeding cannot be replaced”.
She added that 70 percent of road accidents are usually as a result of human error which is often due to over-speeding, non-adherence to traffic rules and regulations, and the condition of the motor vehicles.
The Acting General Manager reiterated that three etiquettes all drivers must adhere to are concentration, consideration and caution.
Furthermore, she advised drivers to be adequately prepared for each journey undertaken during and beyond Eid-el-Kabir celebration by not only ensuring being in the right frame of mind but also making sure that the brakes, wipers and tyres of their vehicles are in proper working condition.
She reminded the listeners about the importance of undergoing the annual drivers’ training at LASDRI which is mandatory, stressing that once a driver is trained, hundreds of road users’ lives are protected.
Tiamiyu also urged commuters to always caution drivers whenever they notice any recklessness or excessive speeding on their part.
