The Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has appointed Professor Ladi Hamalai, (Mni, MFR) as the Commandant, EFCC Academy, Karu,Abuja.
She took over from Dr. David Tukura who recently resigned his appointment.
The appointment which is with immediate effect was consummated with a hand over ceremony on Friday, August 2, 2019, attended by both Dr Tukura and Professor Hamalai with heads of departments, units and staff of the Academy in attendance.
At the handover ceremony, Dr. Tukura, disclosed that he resigned to enable him take up a new assignment as the paramount ruler of his community in Nasarawa State.
“I realized that being a paramount ruler of my homeland will not conform to my assignment here as the Commandant of the EFCC Academy and because my people have offered me the highest honour of my custom as their King, I resigned my appointment with the Commission,” Tukura said.
Tukura who was first appointed Director of EFCC Academy, formerly known as the Training and Research Institute of the EFCC in May, 2006 was highly extolled and celebrated by the staff for his exceptional services to the Commission in several capacities, having been Director of Policy Planning and Statistics (DPPS) 2012, and reappointed the Commandant of the Academy in 2017, where he served until his voluntary retirement.
Dr. Tukura thanked officers of the Academy for their unflinching support to him and encouraged them to extend the same support and love to Professor Hamalai, noting that the conducive working environment he enjoyed fostered growth and development of the Academy.
Until her appointment, Hamalai was the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
She left NILDS having served two tenures of four years each. In her remarks, the new Commandant expressed joy and readiness to contribute her quota towards the further advancement of the Academy. She disclosed that she was ready to welcome new ideas and urged the officers to be diligent, hardworking, and to imbibe reading and research habits.
“One of the hallmarks of success is for you to atune yourselves with the adequate knowledge you need in order to excel in your profession. The Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu has a lot of targets and milestones he desires to achieve and will need so much from us to accomplish those aspirations. We all have to work hard to achieve that,” Hamalai said.
