In a sweeping move just 24 hours after assuming office as the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo has dismissed all permanent secretaries who were appointed from outside the state’s civil service, along with other political appointees across the state.
Additionally, Okpebholo has ordered the dissolution of the executive teams of all boards, agencies, and parastatals within Edo State’s public service, effective immediately. These decisions were outlined in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.
“All affected appointees are directed to hand over any government property in their possession to the most senior public officers within their respective ministries, departments, and agencies,” Itua stated.
Senator Okpebholo, who was sworn in on Tuesday after securing victory in the September 21 governorship election, defeated his opponents, Peoples Democratic Party candidate Asue Ighodalo and Labour Party’s Barrister Olumide Akpata, running under the banner of the All Progressives Congress.
