In a significant move, the Edo State House of Assembly has recalled the two remaining suspended lawmakers, Donald Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II) and Adeh Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I), after a five-month suspension. The announcement was made during the Assembly’s plenary session in Benin on Wednesday.
According to Nigerian Tribune, the suspension of the lawmakers, alongside Bright Iyamu (Orhiomwon South), took effect on May 6 over allegations of plotting to impeach the Speaker and other principal officers. Bright Iyamu, however, was reinstated in June after expressing remorse, according to Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.
During the plenary, Agbebaku confirmed the recall of Okogbe and Isibor, stating, “The house has agreed that the two remaining lawmakers on suspension be recalled.”
In a related development, Speaker Agbebaku extended his congratulations to the governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, on his victory in the recently concluded governorship election. He remarked, “The governor-elect is for the people of Edo and not for the APC alone,” adding a prayer that sycophants do not mislead him during his tenure.
The speaker also expressed appreciation to the legislators for their dedication to ensuring the passage of impactful bills and resolutions during the long recess.
Additionally, the Assembly approved a 57-day sitting calendar for the second quarter of the second session of the 8th Assembly, marking a continuation of their legislative work.
