The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Godwin Obaseki. The APC alleges that the Governor’s recent remarks constitute a threat to national security.
In a statement, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, the Edo APC chairman, responded to a video where Governor Obaseki addressed a shooting incident that resulted in the death of Inspector Akor Onuh, the police orderly of Senator Monday Okpebholo.
Tenebe accused the Governor of making inflammatory statements and implied that Obaseki’s administration is linked to state-sponsored extrajudicial killings, often disguised as inter-cult violence.
Tenebe described the Governor’s statements as a descent into madness, likening Obaseki’s threats to a potential source of anarchy. He urged the State House of Assembly to act swiftly to prevent further escalation.
The APC chairman also criticized the Governor for allegedly using state security networks and volunteer groups to suppress dissent, further exacerbating insecurity in Edo State.
He called for an immediate response from the Assembly to condemn the Governor’s threats and start impeachment proceedings.
