A charge has gone to organizations and corporate bodies In Ogun State to look inwards by diversifying to other areas that can better position the country to tackle pandemics such as the Corona virus now and in the nearest future.
The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who gave the charge, while receiving another set of three hundred thousand nose mask donated by Lee Group of Companies to the state government, said this is the right period to think and act fast.
According to her, ‘this had become necessary since Europe and Asia who hitherto were the go to for procurement of goods can no longer meet Demands having been worst hit by the pandemic
‘’With the current transmission stage and continued rise in cases, the importance of personal protective equipment PPE cannot be overrated, there is need therefore to ensure a lot of such equipment are readily available particularly for our health workers especially the face mask which can be produced locally by our manufacturing companies’’ she said.
Salako-Oyedele while appreciating the Lee Group on behalf of the state government for their continued support, advised them to ensure the appropriate sensitization of its employees on the pandemic, noting that this would not only serve them as individuals but their immediate family and the larger society on how best to stay safe during this period.
Earlier in her remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, appreciated the company’s continued support especially at this trying period, saying that the donation was a clear demonstration of the love and value the company has for the state health workers.
In her contributions, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs Kikelomo Longe, noted that Lee group of company has been supportive by employing quite number of the citizens of the state and have continued to show high sense of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
While thanking the company for the support, especially during this period, she said the state government is expecting more mutual and beneficial relationship between the company, government and the people of the state.
The General Manager, Lee group of company, Mr Philip Seng, commended efforts of the state government on the management of COVID-19 pandemic since the index case, saying the state government has really shown determination and love for the citizens by committing so much resource at fighting the virus.
He added that in order to compliment government’s efforts in fighting the pandemic in the state, the company is donating 300,000 pieces of biobase disposable nose masks, especially for the use of health workers.
In a related development, Wessy group, led by its Chairman, Otunba Wasiu Jayeola Taiwo, has also shown its support to the Ogun State government by donating 10,000 nose masks, while noting that curbing the spread of the virus in the state requires collective efforts as government alone cannot fight the pandemic.
