Ijebu Ode, Ogun State – Tragedy struck in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, on Sunday, as a suspected cult clash resulted in the gruesome murder of a middle-aged man.
The victim, identified as “Mosquito,” was found dead along Ijagun Road, with machete wounds, gunshot injuries, and his left hand severed.
According to eyewitnesses, a distress call was made to the police at 2340hrs, prompting a swift response from the Divisional Police Officer, who dispatched a team of officers to the scene.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that “the police found the body of the victim with machete wounds and gunshot injuries. The victim’s left hand had been severed and taken away.”
She added that “six expended cartridges were found at the scene, and an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the suspects who fled and determine the motive behind the gruesome murder.”
The police are working to unravel the pattern of cutting off the left hand from deceased victims, as this is not an isolated incident.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
In a statement, SP Odutola said, “A clash between rival cults in Ogun State has resulted in a suspected murder which has claimed one life”
“It was later discovered that the deceased, also known as “Mosquito,” was identified as a member of the Aye confraternity. Six expended cartridges were found at the scene”.
“The body was evacuated and has been transferred to Ijebu Ode State Hospital where he was pronounced dead and placed in the morgue”.
“An investigation is ongoing, with efforts being made to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene and unravel the pattern of cutting off left hand from deceased victims”.
