Crescent Varsity Graduates presents 14th Convocation Stage Play, As VC launches OnStage Magazine
Ahead of the 14th Convocation of Crescent University, Abeokuta, its Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila has formally launched OnStage magazine, one of the projects of graduating students of the department of mass communication of the institution.
Prof. Gbajabiamila launched the magazine in company with the Registrar,Barr. Zakariyya Ajibola, University Librarian, Dr Mulikat Salaam and University Bursar, Alhaji Jimoh Bankole.
Reading out the names of diploma graduates, the VC said “we are proud indeed that this magazine comprises the names of all 2022 Diploma graduands.
“This is a magazine that is going to be for sale on news stand,” he concluded
In a related development, the films diploma graduates who are members of Theatre and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) also did a stage play titled “Never too Late” to the admiration of staff and students of the institution.
It was the first of its kind in Nigeria where student practitioners would present a didactic stage drama to lighten up the convocation ceremonies.
In a rousing ovation, the graduating students were applauded for using the play to teach a lesson about education to all irrespective of their age.
“I want to say that I truly enjoyed the stage play.I want yo use this opportunity to present to Mr Ebun Olaiya aka Igwe this portrait for his birthday, Prof. Gbajabiamila has said.
He added that he was gratified to have been part of facilitators of the programme while lauding the leading roles of the head of department of mass communication, Dr Kola Adesina with his team for the diploma program tagged ” Film, Theatre and Communication Studies”.
In his remarks, Barr. Zakariyya Ajibola went memory lane how the programme was proposed by Dr Adesina to test waters of unbundling of mass communication courses as recommended by the National Universities Commission. He therefore, recognized every member of the department of mass communication who took part in lecturing the films, theatre and communication studies to the diploma graduates.
Earlier, the convocation lecturer, Professor Auwalu Yadudu had spoken extensively on the topic “Restructuring Nigeria: Crucial Lessons from 2014 Political Reforms and National Conferences”.
In his appreciation, Adesina explained that
“it was a programme put together by department of mass communication.
“It was a six-month rigorous training to train practitioners of film and theatre to acquire more skills and productivity.
“TK, one of the best cinematographers in the world also delivered a masterclass apart from a couple of masterclasses delivered by the vice chancellor himself”.
