Succour came the way of the aged and vulnerable in Abeokuta area of Ogun State, Nigeria when a group of youths known as YATO distributed palliatives to cushion the effects of lockdown, occasioned by the corona virus pandemic.
About 150 households in Ita Oloti and Oju olona in Ikereku, Kemta, Ijeun-titun, Gbonagun and Asero benefited from the gift items which were mainly foodstuffs like garri, rice, seasoning, beans and more.
The distribution coordinator, Mr Oladipupo Abdulazeez who first addressed a social-distanced gathering of the aged informed that the group, which comprised youths from different African countries, is committed to alleviating sufferings among the people and bringing socio-economic development to their home countries.
Abdulazeez further told our correspondent that the youths decided to raise funds among themselves to care for those who once cared for them and can no longer do so due to old age or other factors.
A cross section of the aged who were full of joy expressed gratitude to the young boys and girls who deemed it fit to remember them in a time of crisis, while also praying for the growth of the group.
The name “YATO” according to the group, was inspired from a Yoruba word meaning “different”, and it seeks to change the old narratives to become a responsible and responsive generation, with impact.
Founded in 2019 by Mr. Olayemi Ibrahim in Colorado USA as a non-governmental, non-profit making and non-political Association, YATO has members in different countries.
