Justice Maryanne Anenih of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has issued a public summons compelling former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to appear in court on October 24, 2024.

The summons relates to a 16-count charge brought against Bello, involving a criminal breach of trust totaling N110.4 billion.

The summons comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an application, citing its inability to serve Bello with the charges initially filed on September 24.

Two other individuals, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, are also named in the case and will appear in court alongside Bello.

Justice Anenih, responding to the EFCC’s request, ordered that the summons be published in a widely circulated newspaper to ensure that it reaches the former governor.

In addition, the court instructed that copies of the summons be posted at Bello’s last known address and displayed prominently within the court premises to guarantee public awareness of the proceedings.
