On Friday, a Federal High Court in Abuja set September 18 for a judgment in the case challenging Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje’s position as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Justice Inyang Ekwo scheduled the judgment after hearing arguments from both the plaintiff and the defense. The plaintiff, North Central APC Forum led by Saleh Zazzaga, argues that Ganduje’s appointment is unconstitutional since he is from Kano State in the North West, not the North Central zone as required by the APC constitution.
The suit, identified as FHC/ABJ/CS/599/2024, names Ganduje, the APC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. The plaintiff seeks to restrain Ganduje from acting as APC Chairman and to invalidate any APC actions taken under his leadership since August 3, 2023.
During the hearing, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Benjamin Davou, urged the court to grant the reliefs sought, while Ganduje’s lawyer Abdul Adamu, APC’s counsel Isiaka Dikko, SAN, and INEC’s Ahmed Mohammed argued against the suit, calling for its dismissal.
The court will deliver its verdict on September 18.
