A couple narrowly escaped death on Thursday evening in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after a trailer carrying a container overturned and crushed their stationary vehicle just moments after they had exited.
The incident occurred near Ogbomoso High School, where the container-laden trailer with registration number Nasarawa JZ 101 ZA lost balance and toppled over. The long container it was carrying fell onto the couple’s parked car, which bore a Lagos State registration number.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as terrifying, emphasizing how close the couple had come to being inside the vehicle when the accident occurred.
“The couple had just alighted from their car when the trailer tipped over,” one witness told InsideOgbomoso. “It was nothing short of miraculous that they were not in the car at the time.”
Although the couple escaped unscathed, the accident caused significant traffic disruption in the area as emergency responders and bystanders worked to clear the wreckage.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with concerns raised about the stability and maintenance of such heavy-duty vehicles. Meanwhile, residents have called for stricter safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
