A tragic incident unfolded at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State, where a correctional officer, Kabiru Abubakar, allegedly killed his colleague, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma, following a minor dispute over food.
The incident occurred on Tuesday around 2 p.m. in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area.
According to eyewitness reports, the two officers, who were known to be close friends, began arguing after Chiroma brought his lunch and Kabiru insisted on sharing it. The argument escalated, leading to the fatal altercation.
The Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Aminu Ahmed, confirmed the incident, noting that it occurred outside the facility. He added that the deceased, Chiroma, hailed from Giade LGA, while the suspect, Kabiru, is from Dass LGA. Both officers were posted to the Burra Correctional Centre.
Ahmed also revealed that Chiroma’s body has been handed over to his family for burial, and Kabiru is currently in police custody as investigations are ongoing.
