The Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, has organised a sensitisation programme on the Coronavirus for the 57 Secretaries to Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas as part of efforts to curb the spread of the disease in the State.
Speaking at a quarterly meeting with the Secretaries, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Folashade Jaji said the awareness became necessary to safeguard the lives of every resident in Lagos State against the dreaded disease which has claimed many lives globally.
Jaji said the Secretaries, known as Scribes 57, must be conversant with the facts about the disease in order to share correct information to their immediate families, the community and general public, as well as to guard against misinformation.
In his contribution, the Lagos Incident Manager, COVID-19 Emergency and Director, Epidemiology, Biosecurity and Global Health, Dr. Isamail Abdul-Salam, who addressed the Secretaries, said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Incident Commander has set modalities in motion to checkmate the spread of the disease.
While highlighting the common symptoms of the disease to include coughing, sneezing, fever and fatigue, Abdul-Salam explained that the best way to prevent being infected is to maintain personal and environmental hygiene of regular hand washing and proper disposal of refuse.
The Vice-Chairman, Scribes 57 and Secretary to Ijede LCDA, Mr. Kunle Olabinwonu commended Mrs. Jaji for the enlightenment session and promised, on behalf of his colleagues, to embark on the sensitisation exercise in their various communities.
