The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon. Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, has passed away. A reliable source, who requested to remain anonymous, confirmed that Justice Adeyeye died in the early hours of today.
The source indicated that the late Chief Judge had been battling health issues since July 12, 2023, following a serious injury sustained when a section of the state high court complex wall collapsed on him while he was in his office.
Investigations revealed that Justice Adeyeye had been indisposed since the unfortunate incident, which left him unable to fulfill his judicial duties.
While no official announcement has been made regarding his death, the Association of International Female Lawyers (FIDA) in Ekiti State has extended condolences to his family.
In their message of condolence, FIDA Ekiti expressed their sorrow, stating, “With deep sorrow in our hearts and in total submission to the will of God, FIDA Ekiti consoles with the family of the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Hon Justice Oyewole Adeyeye on his call to glory. May He find rest with his maker. I pray that God grants the family, the Judiciary, and the people of Ekiti State, the grace to bear this irreparable loss. Adieu great one.”
When contacted for confirmation, Ekiti State Chairperson of FIDA, Oyinade Olatunbosun, assured that she would provide a signed statement soon.
Justice Adeyeye was born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, Ekiti East Local Government of Ekiti State. He was called to the bar in 1986 and began his career as a State Counsel in the civil service of the old Ondo State. Following the establishment of Ekiti State in 1996, he joined the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission.
He ascended to the position of a judge in the Ekiti State High Court in 2002 and served at various times on the election petition tribunal.
