Former President Muhammadu Buhari has extended his congratulations to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the newly elected governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, following what he described as a “prized, historic electoral victory” in the recent governorship election.
In a statement signed Garba Shehu and released on Sunday, Buhari expressed his hope that the incoming administration, alongside the leaders of opposition parties, will work together for the advancement of democracy and continued development in Edo State.
“Congratulations to the APC and the election winner, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on the historic electoral victory, and my warmest wishes for a new lease of life for Edo State and its people,” the former president said.
“I very much hope the winners and the losers will work together to strengthen democracy and maintain the trajectory of development in the state.”
Buhari also took the opportunity to commend Nigeria’s law enforcement agencies for ensuring a peaceful election process, praising election officials for their efforts to improve the electoral system.
“I commend the law enforcement agencies for the efforts that they put into ensuring a peaceful election, and the multitude of election officials who strive to improve with each election,” Buhari noted.
In his closing remarks, the former president offered prayers for the country’s continued democratic progress. “I pray that Nigeria, the continent’s most populous country, will continue to achieve remarkable progress under democracy,” he added.
