The recently released results of West African Examination Council (WAEC) witnessed an unprecedented successful outing for the students of Borstal Training Institution (BTI), Abeokuta, Ogun-State.
The institution who registered Nineteen (19) students had shown class, competence and passed the institution’s internal examination – as a prerequisite for WAEC registration and a sign of readiness on the part of the students to partake in the May/June 2020 WAEC examination which was postponed to September 2020 due to the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This good news was contained in a release made available to our correspondent by the Public Relation Officer of BORSTAL, DSC RB Yusuf in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital today.
DSC Yusuf said, “The students did not disappoint as they excel in the examination, the entire registered student (19) passed their papers with Mathematics and English language inclusive. While six (6) students cleared their papers with at least (9) nine credit pass, the least student secured six (6) credit pass, a plus to the institution outing in WAEC examination 2020”
“Earlier in the year, twenty-one (21) students registered and sat for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer Based Test (CBT) and their performance was satisfactory”
“The entire students that registered scored above JAMB bench mark of 170 for admission into tertiary institution.”
“The least score was 172 marks and the highest score was 254 marks, twelve (12) students scored above 200marks eligibility benchmark for admission into university”
“With the student performance in both JAMB and WAEC examination, the institution is currently preparing (10) ten students for POST-UTME examination as a necessity for admission into their respective tertiary institution of choice; at the same time, students that were released to their parents, guidance or relatives are been followed-up on their admission status, so as to provide support and assistance where necessary”.
Controller of Corrections VM Fatodu, the Principal in-charge of the Juvenile Custodial Centre was delighted with the satisfactory performance of the students as it surpasses the institution’s minimum target and expectation.
In her remarks, the Controller however appreciated the efforts of the staff especially the academic staff, volunteers, NYSC corp members and organization that contributed towards the laudable feat and success recorded by the students in the examinations.
The students were thereafter admonished and encouraged not to relent in their stride to be better as their examination success is an initial step towards a brighter future and its only hard work, persistent and good virtues they learnt while in the institution will see them through achieving their desired goals in life.
