President Bola Tinubu is set to submit the New National Minimum Wage Bill to the National Assembly next week, pending any last-minute changes.
This move follows a scheduled meeting between the President and the leadership of Organized Labour on Thursday.
Last week, President Tinubu met with organized labour leaders to discuss the minimum wage issue. The Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage had submitted two different figures to the President due to disagreements among stakeholders.
The government team and the organized private sector proposed N62,000, while organized labour demanded N250,000.
After receiving the committee’s report, President Tinubu pledged to consult with relevant stakeholders to harmonize the figures before sending the executive bill to the National Assembly.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, informed State House correspondents that the President will transmit the executive bill after Thursday’s meeting with organized labour.
He also mentioned that an amendment to the 2024 budget, which will address the new minimum wage among other issues, will be sent to the National Assembly.
