The body of 23-year-old Miss Precious Yusuf was discovered along DLA Road, opposite Falcon Club in Asaba, Delta State, following her visit to a man she met on a dating website.
Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, noting that the corpse has been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.
“The Delta State Police Command condoles with the family of Miss Precious Yusuf, aged 23, whose body was found along DLA Road opposite Falcon Club,” Edafe said. He added that, “On October 24, 2024, at about 0840 hours, the DPO of ‘A’ Division Asaba received a distress call about a young lady’s corpse being found at DLA Road.”
According to Edafe, the DPO, CSP Rex Abiodun, quickly mobilized police operatives to the scene. “Preliminary investigations revealed that on October 22, 2024, she informed her friend that she was going to see a male friend she met on the iHappy dating website,” he stated. “She left home on the 22nd to meet the young man at Coka. On the 23rd, at about 0730 hours, she called her friend to say she was on her way home, which unfortunately turned out to be the last contact anyone had with her before her body was found the next day.”
The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary as authorities await the autopsy results. Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reassured the public, especially the deceased’s family, that an investigation is underway and that justice will be served.
“The Commissioner of Police urges young ladies to be mindful of the friends they associate with and to exercise caution when dealing with people they meet on dating websites and social media platforms,” Edafe emphasized.
