President Bola Tinubu engaged in a phone call with United States President Joe Biden on Tuesday at approximately 4 PM Nigerian time.

The discussion lasted around 30 minutes and was described by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, during a briefing with State House Correspondents.

The conversation primarily focused on the recent release of Tigran Gambaryan, the Head of Finance Crime Compliance at Binance, and the broader collaboration between the two nations regarding law enforcement.

Tuggar stated, “The call was about the collaboration between the two countries with regards to law enforcement and law enforcement agencies as well as the release of one of the suspects of the cryptocurrency exchange company that you are all aware of.”

During the call, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the US for its partnership and collaboration in various security matters affecting Africa and the West African region. President Biden assured Tinubu that their partnership is crucial, noting that “the future of the world resides in Africa, and as such, the partnership is important.”

Additionally, the leaders discussed the topic of a permanent seat for Africa in the United Nations Security Council, with Biden affirming the United States’ commitment to supporting Africa’s representation, stating he did not see why one of those seats should not belong to Nigeria.
