BENUE COLLEGE ALUMNI SETS FOR COOPERATIVE THRIFT VENTURE

As part of moves to create alternative source of income, the Old Boys of Mt. St. Michaels Secondary School and St. James Junior Seminary Aliade, Benue state are to establish a cooperative and thrift association.

This formed part of the resolution reached at 30th Post-Graduation Anniversary Reunion of the schools, held in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital at the weekend.

Tagged: “The Abeokuta Declaration” the Old students of the 1989 set also resolved “to actively contribute our quota to the political, economic and social advancement of all our members, the association, our alma maters and Nigeria at large.”

The resolution, which was signed by 12 members for and on behalf of those present and those absent at the Abeokuta Declaration promised “to uphold in our individual and collective lives, public and private, the values and discipline that were instilled in us as students of our alma maters.”

The resolution reads: “The Abeokuta Declaration”

“On this day, September 7th 2019, at the occasion of the 30th Post-Graduation Anniversary Reunion of the Old Boys of Mt. St. Michaels Secondary School and St. James Junior Seminary Aliade, held in Abeokuta Ogun State Nigeria, we, members of the class, having met, deliberated, consulted with others and shared personal experiences, now therefore wish to adopt the following declaration for ourselves and on behalf of our other classmates who could not be with us in Abeokuta; 

1.That we affirm the motto of Mt. St. Michaels Secondary School, Aliade, “Quis Ut Deus” and that of St. James Junior Seminary, “Ut Omnes Onum Sint”

2.That we undertake to uphold in our individual and collective lives, public and private, the values and discipline that were instilled in us as students of our alma maters.

3.That we will strive to challenge ourselves, individually and collectively and better our lot as we go through the process of life 

4.That we would hold periodic interactions, as prescribed by our constitution, to listen, admonish and counsel each other, with a view to mutually support one other.

5.That we undertake to foster, promote and pursue the unity, collective progress and development of AOBA in general and AOBA Set 89 in particular.

6.That we, as individual members and collectively as a group pledge to employ our energies, talent, good offices and knowledge for the progress of AOBA in general and Set 89 in particular.

7.That we undertake to actively contribute our quota to the political, economic and social advancement of all our members, the association, our alma maters and Nigeria at large.

8.In pursuit of the above, we undertake to establish a cooperative and thrift association to encourage members to run alternative source of income.

9.That we undertake to operate a collaborative network scheme in order to share relevant privileges and information that is useful for our members to develop themselves.

10.That we call on other classmates to show more interest in the affairs of the class especially as we face a challenging future together. 

This declaration is made in good faith by the undersigned, for the overall interest of all AOBA Members, AOBA Set 89, our alma maters and Nigeria in general.”

The declaration was by Ula, Kenneth Shimmatavar; Wende, Emmanuel Terfa; Agbile, Amos Iorliam; Azege, Ernest Yima; Shirsha, Philip Aondoer and Bature, Ernest Bemaondo.

Others were Ornguga, John Aondokura; Nyajo, Jacob Ngusha; Agbo, Augustine Bem; Yol, James Aondoakaa; Ikyenge, Anthony Yina and Ortese, Vitalis Shaci.
