With the Ondo State governorship election set for Saturday, November 16, 2024, sensitive election materials, including ballot papers and result sheets, were delivered to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Akure, the state capital, on Monday.
The materials arrived at the CBN’s Alagbaka branch in the afternoon, ensuring the election process is set to proceed as scheduled.
Sources confirmed that the sensitive materials were flown in by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and handed over to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the watchful eyes of armed security personnel.
Confirming the arrival of the materials, Mr. Temitope Akanmu, spokesperson for INEC in Ondo State, said that the distribution process is set to commence by Thursday, following all necessary security protocols.
Akanmu further assured leaders of the political parties involved in the election that they would be invited to the CBN headquarters for an inspection of the materials prior to distribution.
He emphasized that the materials would only be dispatched to the various local government areas once party leaders had completed their assessment, noting, “So, by Thursday, we would commence its distribution after the party leaders have inspected the materials in the presence of INEC and security agents.”
