Chief Olalekan Alex Shoyinka, widely known as Ayinla Egba, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) Chairmanship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government, has condemned the tragic killing of an All Progressives Congress (APC) Councillorship candidate in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital.

In a strongly-worded statement, Ayinla Egba expressed deep sadness over the brutal event, describing it as a “barbaric act” that should not be tolerated in the political landscape of Ogun State.

He called on law enforcement authorities to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure justice is served.

“This brutal killing is not only a devastating blow to the victim’s family and political associates but also a dangerous signal for the political atmosphere in Ogun State,” he said.

Ayinla Egba also urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to prioritize the safety and protection of the citizens of Ogun State, especially in Abeokuta South Local Government, where youths are actively participating in politics and community leadership.

“I condemn this barbaric act in its entirety and call on the authorities to carry out a thorough and swift investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. I sympathize with the family of Adeleke Adeyinka and pray that God grants them comfort during this difficult time,” he added.

With the 2024 local government elections drawing near, Ayinla Egba appealed for calm and encouraged Ogun State residents to remain alert and vigilant. He stressed that creating a peaceful and secure environment for political engagement is crucial as the elections approach.

“Political violence has no place in our state. We cannot afford to create a climate of fear for our youths and future leaders,” Ayinla Egba continued. “It is crucial to note that while the upcoming elections remain competitive, they must be fair, moral, and legal.”

In his statement, Ayinla Egba emphasized the importance of the Ogun State government ensuring the safety of all residents, particularly young individuals actively involved in politics, regardless of their political affiliation.

He urged Governor Abiodun to step up efforts in safeguarding the lives of those who are contributing to the state’s development.

Ayinla Egba however extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the entire APC community, while calling on all political stakeholders to unite in promoting peace and harmony within Ogun State.
