Auto Crash Claims 12 Lives in Ogun State

ABEOKUTA – It was a black Sunday in Ogun State as road accident claimed the lives of 12 people. The accident which involved an ash colour Toyota Sports Space Van and a black KIA Cerato car at Siun along Abeokuta /Sagamu expressway in Ogun State. 

According to the crash report made available to Tropic Reporters in Abeokuta by the Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Florence Okpe stated that the tragic incident occurred around 1pm on Sunday following a tyre burst of the KIA Cerato car with registration number KJA 806 BT and the driver was suspected to have applied break suddenly which led to him loosing control of the over – speeding car.

Okpe further said that the sudden step on the break made the car to have left it’s lane, climbing the median and raced to the opposite direction where the car collided with an oncoming Toyota Sports Space passenger bus with registration number LSR 334 FF travelling from Abeokuta towards Sagamu.

The FRSC spokesperson further explained that, the unfortunate incident killed all the occupants of the two ill-fated vehicles.

She noted that, five male, six female adult and one child were involved in the crash while their remains have been deposited at the morgue of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH).

Meanwhile, the Ogun State FRSC Sector Commander, Clement Oladele while commiserating with the families of the deceaseds, enjoined members of the public whose family traveled with the period to contact the FRSC command in Abeokuta or the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu for identification of the victims.

Commander Oladele however, advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition, including driving with good tyres and avoid excessive speed.
