The President of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation and Chairman, Ifedara Opeji Area CDC, Alhaji (Asiwaju) Dapo Wahab has described the announcement of the removal of fuel Subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the best decision in the interest of Nigeria.
Asiwaju Dapo Wahab made this position known on Friday, during an exclusive interview with an Online Television, Ebun TV, stating that the subsidy is no longer sustainable in the country.
Asiwaju Dapo Wahab maintained that payment of subsidy on fuel will have a huge pressure on the economy, which will negatively affect ways of life and may plunge the country into serious debt following continuous borrowing.
He therefore called for better understanding, calm, and the need for Nigerians to support the Tinubu’s administration over the removal of subsidy on premium motor spirit (better known as petrol), and the adjustment of pump prices across the country.
He said in parts, “I appeal to Nigerians to bear with the government for now as the present hardship will ease out with time.
“Removing the fuel subsidy is the best thing to do as subsidy is no longer sustainable in the country”.
“I, therefore call on Nigerians to support the removal of subsidy to save all as the continued payment of subsidy will lead Nigeria to continue to borrow and remain in debt”.
“It is a tough and painful decision to make, but certainly the right step towards the right direction, to saving not just a few but the entire nation, to restoring the glory of Nigeria as the leader of Africa”, he said.
Recall that the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his inaugural address, promised to end fuel subsidy, insisting that no budgetary allocation was made in the 2023 budget.
Tinubu also promised to focus subsidy funds on infrastructural projects, education and healthcare.
