The President of Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Alhaji (Asiwaju) Dapo Wahab has been honoured with a Community Leadership Award. The award which was given to him following his leadership prowess in the development of Community in Ogun State.
The award presentation which was held to commemorate the 4th Founder’s anniversary of Tropic Reporters Media Communications, a Community based online news Platform.
The epoch making event held on Sunday 18th April, 2021 has in attendance dignitaries from all spheres of life.
The event which was also flavored with an anniversary lecture titled ” The Role of Community Journalism in Nation Building” was delivered by Mr. Irebami Soyinka (Lecturer, Dept. Of Mass Communications, McPherson University, Ogun State).
In his lecture he said, “The media exist primarily for the audience and not for professionalism”.
“Nation building begins from our various homes, He further stressed the need for journalist to be up and doing at all times, Citizens are scared to give out information that’s one of the problems we have as a nation because Nigerians do not trust in journalists”.
“Community Journalism is people centered, it reflects the people and their voices not being subdued”.
He however implored media Practisioners to look beyond personalities in getting News.
He stated the fact that Nigeria lacks behind in community radiology, which has also contributed to the hindrances of community Journalism.
Alhaji (Asiwaju) Dapo Wahab, who was one of the Awardees received award of Recognition as an Outstanding Community Leader of the Year 2020.
