ARAGBIJI ASSURES NYSC OF ROYAL SUPPORT; DESCRIBES SCHEME AS A GOOD TRAINING GROUND
The Aragbiji of Iragbijiland, His Royal Majesty Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi has assured the NYSC Scheme of his readiness to assist in any capacity the scheme would need his assistance.
Oba Abdul-Rasheed gave the assurance during a courtesy visit paid to his palace in Boripe Local Government Area by the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr Adegoke Ayodele on Monday 5th August, 2019. He stated that corps members posted to Boripe local government have been of good conduct and are really representing the scheme well in the local government. He posited further that corps members in the local government have free access to his palace whenever they need his assistance or intervention.
Oba Abdul-Rasheed, who recalled his service year experience as a Corps Liaison Affairs Officer who supervised other corps members and CLOs then in Kwara State in the 80s, stressed that the NYSC scheme is a good training ground for self-discovery and holistic development if utilized effectively by corps members.
He added that anyone who serves the nation selflessly and faithfully would surely achieve greater heights in life.
Speaking on community development service, Olabomi stressed that corps members should not engage in elephant projects that are financially demanding but rather projects that are realistic and within their capability. According to him ” sourcing for funds to execute big projects can expose corps members especially females to dangers such as sexual harassment, among others”.
He therefore called on the management of the scheme not to base award selection on size of projects but rather on the efforts put in by a corps member in carrying out a project.
The State Coordinator, Mr Adegoke Ayodele earlier in his speech, appreciated the Aragbiji for his friendly disposition towards corps members serving in the local government and the scheme in the State. He also expressed gratitude to the Oba for always honouring the scheme’s invitation whenever he was called upon to deliver traditional lectures during orientation programmes, as he was rightly informed.
Speaking on the palace gate which is under construction, Adegoke assured the Oba that corps members expertise will be fully harnessed in assisting in the erection of a befitting gate at the palace.
