The Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Saturday’s local council polls in the state. The APC won all 21 Chairmanship seats and 225 Ward Councillors.
KESIEC Chairman, Aliyu Muhammad-Mera, announced the results in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, stating that 17 political parties participated in the polls, including the APC, NNPP, LP, AAC, Boot party, AP, and SDP.
Muhammad-Mera confirmed that the commission had ratified and adopted the chairmanship results for the Local Governments as announced by the various councils’ Returning Officers and the Councillorship results as announced at the electoral wards.
He expressed joy that the exercise was peaceful and hitch-free, commending the security agencies and all other stakeholders for their invaluable support.
The PDP had boycotted the elections, alleging that the KESIEC Chairman and his Commissioners were card-carrying members of the APC and would not be fair to opposition parties.
The commission’s leadership had been accused of bias by the PDP, who claimed that they would not conduct a fair election. Despite this, the election went ahead, with the APC emerging as the clear winner.
