The Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun, successfully apprehended three suspected kidnappers in Ikakumo, Akoko South East, while they were in the process of dividing a N200,000 ransom.
The suspects, identified as Obalogbe Temitayo (19), Ogundele Ojo (20), and Pelemo Samuel (20), had earlier claimed to be farmers, but confessed to the crime after being arrested.
During an interview, one of the suspects, Pelemo Samuel, expressed regret over their actions. He revealed that they kidnapped their victim in Ikakumo and negotiated a ransom with the family.
However, their plan unraveled when Amotekun officers discovered them sharing the ransom in a forested area.
Commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspects were caught near the Ikakumo border, an area at the crossroads of Ondo, Kogi, and Edo states.
He added that the three were paraded alongside 26 other suspected criminals involved in various crimes across the region.
Ex-Convict Arrested for Motorcycle Theft
In addition to the kidnappers, Amotekun also arrested Michael Ojo, an ex-convict, who admitted to being involved in the theft of motorcycles over the past five years.
Ojo explained that motorcycles have become more valuable and easier to steal than other vehicles, prompting him to focus on this illicit trade.
He was paraded with other suspects by Chief Adeleye, who reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to tackling crime in the state.
