A 48-year-old woman found herself before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Friday, facing allegations of defrauding to the tune of N1.5 million.

The defendant, whose address remains undisclosed, is facing a single count charge of fraud.

According to the police prosecutor, Insp Osuolale Yomi, the accused supposedly committed the act in February 2024 in Ikere-Ekiti.

It was alleged that she duped Oba Benjamin Olaniyi under the pretense of drilling a borehole for him, a claim that breaches Section 329(1) a of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.

Requesting time to examine the case and gather witnesses, Yomi urged the court for an adjournment.

Despite the charges, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Her counsel, Mr. Kayode Oyeyemi, requested bail, assuring the court of her presence throughout proceedings.

Granting bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety of the same amount, Magistrate Mrs. Olubunmi Bamidele adjourned the case until May 15 for further proceedings.
