The immediate Past President of Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Iyalode Alaba Lawson, MFR has called on private sector to as a matter of necessity partner with both State and Federal Governments to tackle the economic challenges facing the country.
Iyalode Lawson stated this to newsmen on Sunday during her Thanksgiving Service for a successful end of tenure as the First Female President of NACCIMA held at the Cathedral of St. Peter’s, Ake, Abeokuta.
The Amazon and Ex-NACCIMA President enjoined government at all levels to enable Small Scale businesses get loans at a single digit interest rates.
She further observed that, the single digit interest loan would enable the SMEs payback in time and also boost the economy.
“What the state and federal governments need to do is to ensure that the SMEs are helped with single digit loans so that the problems of not being able to pay it back will not happen.
And when they get the single digit loans, they will be able to pump it into their businesses and get a good results.
“The organized private sector should also support the government in the fight to surmount economic challenges in the country”.
Lawson who also doubles as the Iyalode of Yorubaland used the occasion to set agenda for President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term, urging him to partner with the private sector to ensure there is significant economic growth.
“I think we need to work hard and to move our economy to the next level. Our economy is at the lowest step now, but we can all work together as a team. It is only team work, the government can’t do it alone. The organized private sectors have to perform their own function and they have to do it well”.
Earlier In his words, the Provost of Cathedral of St. Peter’s Church, Abeokuta, Revd. Adeniji challenged political leaders in the country to use their leadership position to promote the goodwill of the society, stressing that they (leader) would give account of their work.
