The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen Abubakar Kyari, announced that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security injected N309 billion into the economy in one year under President Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during the ‘Ministerial Sectoral Update,’ Kyari highlighted several achievements, including the cultivation of 118,657 hectares of wheat in 15 states, distribution of various agricultural inputs, and provision of 2.15 million bags of fertilizer from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

To combat food inflation and support farmers, the Ministry distributed seeds, seedlings, agrochemicals, fertilizers, and equipment.

Additionally, 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities were released to the National Emergency Management Agency for distribution, and 58,500 metric tonnes of milled rice were provided to states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Ministry also focused on mechanization, signing agreements with John Deere and Tata Africa to supply 10,000 tractors and 100 combine harvesters, with 500 tractors already en route to Nigeria.

A partnership with the Brazilian government facilitated the supply of mechanization hubs and 2,000 Belarus tractors.

Agricultural research led to the development of 23 improved crop varieties, and efforts were intensified to enhance the export quality of soybeans, sesame, ginger, hibiscus, and tree crops.

In livestock production, the Ministry distributed vaccines, established animal health centers, and facilitated various livestock programs, including fodder distribution and vaccinations.
