Prince Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has attributed the recent fuel scarcity in Nigeria to an “unwise decision” by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration in the petroleum sector.

Speaking on Eagle 102.5 FM’s current affairs program, Frontline, Adebayo criticized the government’s handling of the sector, arguing that poor policy decisions have exacerbated the scarcity, causing undue hardship for ordinary Nigerians.

He emphasized that the administration’s approach has failed to address the root causes of the recurring fuel shortages, which continue to disrupt the lives of millions across the country.

During his appearance on the radio program, Adebayo highlighted several missteps by the current government, particularly in its management of the nation’s refineries and removal subsidy policy.

He pointed out that despite promises to reform the petroleum sector, the Tinubu administration has yet to implement effective measures to ensure a stable supply of fuel.

Adebayo also distanced both himself and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from ongoing coalition talks among opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“The scarcity we are experiencing now is a direct result of poor planning and lack of foresight,” Adebayo stated, calling for more transparency and accountability in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited NNPCL.

“The Social Democratic Party remains focused on its agenda and vision for Nigeria. We are not part of any coalition talks,” he declared.
