A 20-year-old secondary school student, Idris Alex Emeka, has been remanded by a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, for allegedly sexually assaulting a mentally ill woman on three separate occasions.
Emeka, a student at Capital Government Day Secondary School, admitted to the crime during his arraignment.
According to the prosecution’s First Information Report, the defendant was caught engaging in sexual activity with the woman on three separate occasions.
The incident was reported by a resident, Habu Jibrilla, who witnessed the defendant engaging in intercourse with the woman by the street at 6:40 am.
The presiding judge, Magistrate Musa Alhaji Adamu, ordered the defendant to be remanded pending further investigation and trial.
The case has sparked concern and outrage in the community, highlighting the need for greater protection and support for vulnerable individuals, including those with mental health conditions.
