A 37-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly torturing two children under her care—a two-year-old girl and a young boy—after they urinated on her bed.

The incident occurred in Sanda, Makama B Ward, Yola South Local Government Area.

Fatima, who is the children’s stepmother, reportedly assaulted the children for urinating and defecating in the room. The arrest was confirmed by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, during a press briefing on Monday.

According to Nguroje, the arrest was made following a tip-off from concerned neighbors in the community. “The woman has confessed to torturing the kids after she was apprehended. Concerned community members alerted the police after witnessing her repeated abuse of the children,” he said.

Neighbors further revealed that Fatima was known for regularly torturing the children and often depriving them of food. It was also reported that she had previously warned the neighbors to stop interfering in her affairs.

Nguroje added that the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered that the suspect be charged to court, where she will face prosecution for her actions.
