The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the Abuja Light Rail will operate free for two months, after its commissioning on Monday, the 27th of May, 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike made the disclosure at the Ministerial Sectoral Update to mark the first year in office of the President Bola Tinubu administration, held in Abuja, Thursday.
He urged residents to begin use of the Metro rails from Tuesday, the 28th of May, adding that the goal was to aid the ease of commuting for residents and that the President may extend the free train rides up to 6 months.
The Minister also said the FCT Administration will begin the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units tagged the Renewed Hope City from the coming year, 2025.
Speaking at the opening of the Ministerial Sectoral briefing in Abuja, minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris highlighted the President’s commitment to increasing the financial well-being of Nigerians by putting more money into their pockets.
Additionally, he emphasized efforts to attract both local and foreign investments, aiming to significantly transform the nation’s infrastructure.
The Minister assured that the administration would not pause or relent until it has successfully delivered truly renewed hope to all Nigerians.
The ministers of Defence and that of state for petroleum, BADARU Abubakar also gave account of their stewardship. While the Defence minister said there has been better collaboration among security agencies – which is why many of the terrorists commanders are being neutralized.
He said troops have neutralized more than 200 commanders who commanded followership. While the oil minister of state said government policies have brought about peace in the Niger Delta region.
