The Niger state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has directed the Niger State Ministries of Health and Education to set up temporary camps in some schools in the state to serve as quarantine centres.
The directive is for the ministries to convert dining halls of a school each in all the Emirates in the state. Bida and Kontagora are to have two isolation centres each.
This is among other directives given by the governor today during a live state broadcast in government house.
The Governor who made a call for retirees and qualified non-engaged health workers to support the health system by volunteering, said that “the state government is working towards procuring its own test kits and a test center” in addition to the purchase of preventive gears, ventilators and face masks being processed by the ministry of health to keep health workers safe.
Sani Bello also stated that the curfew in the state is still in place adding that “government might relax the curfew to make exemption for pharmaceutical stores and corner shops but the state’s borders will remain closed.”
He then reemphasized that “Niger State has still not recorded any confirmed case of COVID-19 but is being proactive in ensuring that the state is ready for any eventuality. “
