Committed to the promotion of accountability and transparency in public service administration in Ogun State, the State House Of Assembly today passed a resolution calling for the separation of the Office of the Auditor General for State/Local Government from the office of the auditees.
The passage of the resolution titled: “HR. No. 030/ OG/ 2019- Need for the separation of the Office of the Auditor General for State and Local Government from the office of the Auditees”, was sequel a motion moved by the Majority Leader Sheriff Yusuf seconded by his Ado Odo/Ota II Counterpart, Musefiu Lamidi and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote at the plenary presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex. Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
In their separate contributions to the debate leading to the passage of the resolution, members including the Majority Leader Yusuf, Lamidi, Sikirat Ajibola and Oludaisi Elemide sought for the separation of the offices from the auditees, saying that such measure would enhance accountability in line with standard auditing practices.
Also, speaking in support of the House Resolution, Honourables Ademuyiwa Adeyemi, Atinuke Bello, Abayomi Fasuwa and Kemi Oduwole, explained that the sensitive nature of records being handled by the two offices, the need to curb inducement and corruption as well as ensuring compliance with the standard operative procedures were parts of the basis for the call for the separation of the offices.
Responding, Speaker Oluomo sought the need to further empower the two offices to promote efficiency and allowing some level of privacy for the Auditors to perform their duties without fear or favour required that they have their offices separated from their auditees.
In another development , Speaker Oluomo has appealed to residents of the State to bear with the present administration on the pace of road rehabilitation and construction across the State, saying more efforts would be intensified when the rainy season subsides.
Oluomo made the appeal while responding to the submissions of members including Adegoke Adeyanju, Ganiyu Oyedeji and Sola Adams, who reported the deplorable conditions of roads in some parts of their Constituencies which included Igbogila-Ayetoro- Igan Okoto road, Ijoko/Agbado/Akute/ Ojodu and Ijebu Ode-Ogbere roads, who sought for the construction and application of palliative where necessary to boost socio-economic activities of the areas.
