The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed an incident of jungle justice in the Jenta Adamu area of Jos North Local Government Area, where two suspected cultists were lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob.

According to a distress call received from a concerned citizen, the incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. on Friday when a group of suspected cultists invaded the community and attempted to rob residents of their belongings.

Acting on the report, the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, directed the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division Jos to immediately deploy officers and detectives to the scene. Upon arrival, the police team discovered that the mob had taken matters into their own hands by chasing the suspects, lynching them, and setting their bodies ablaze.

The Police Spokesperson revealed that two locally fabricated pistols believed to belong to the cultists were recovered from the scene. In collaboration with the leadership of Jos North Local Government, the burnt remains were evacuated and deposited at the hospital morgue.

CP Adesina strongly condemned the mob action, emphasizing that in a civilized society, “suspects apprehended by citizens should be handed over to the appropriate security agencies to ensure justice is served in line with the Plateau State Penal Code.” He warned that anyone caught engaging in jungle justice would face the full weight of the law.

The Commissioner assured residents that the Police Command has implemented effective measures to safeguard lives and properties, urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with security forces. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
