The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday rejected the claim by Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke that his predecessor, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, paid N17.2 billion over four years for pension and gratuities, describing it as “falsehood and untrue.”

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, accused Adeleke’s administration of misleading the public with inaccurate figures and failing to fulfill its key promises.

“The current administration’s claim regarding the pension payments is completely false, and it demonstrates that the Adeleke government cannot be trusted,” Olabisi said.

He also criticized Governor Adeleke’s claim of offsetting a backlog of pensions and gratuities, calling it “a blatant lie from the pit of hell,” and emphasized that official state documents do not support the Governor’s assertions.

“Recently, in a bid to glorify his lacklustre administration, Governor Adeleke made futile attempts to discredit his predecessors,” Olabisi added.

The APC spokesperson pointed out that while the governor claimed to have released N22.6 billion in the past 24 months to settle pensions and gratuities—representing 70% of what the two previous administrations paid over a 12-year period—this assertion was also false.

He urged Governor Adeleke to prioritize transparency and accountability in his administration, which he described as “motion without movement.”

Olabisi argued that Adeleke’s government has failed to make any significant progress in lifting the people out of poverty or driving financial prosperity in the state.
