The Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Public Complaints Commission in delivering its mandate as an ombudsman. This includes resolving complaints against public and private sector officials and ensuring the Commission’s role in alternative conflict resolution is effectively utilized.

Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, gave this assurance while hosting the newly appointed Federal Commissioner for the State, Mr. Morakinyo Akinleye, and his team at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The visit was part of the Commission’s advocacy efforts to deepen collaboration with stakeholders.

Elemide emphasized the Assembly’s readiness to work with the Commission to raise public awareness of its services. “We will actively sensitize our constituents to explore the Commission’s alternative dispute resolution platform to address grievances and perceived injustices,” he stated.

He also urged the Commission to intensify its public education campaigns, noting the need for citizens to better understand the Commission’s critical role. “Your efforts to resolve conflicts without resorting to lengthy legal battles deserve greater visibility and public engagement,” he added.

Members of the Assembly, including Hon. Adebisi Oyedele and the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, commended the Commissioner for prioritizing public sensitization since assuming office. They also advised the Commission to maintain neutrality when handling disputes to retain public trust.

In his presentation, Mr. Morakinyo Akinleye highlighted the Commission’s mandate to address social injustices caused by both government and private sector officials. Established in 1975, the Commission serves to ease the burden on courts by providing an alternative avenue for resolving disputes.

“Since my resumption, we have launched robust sensitization efforts to educate the public on how to engage with the Commission,” Akinleye noted. He disclosed that the Commission operates from offices in five zones within Ogun State, including Abeokuta, Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu-Ode, Ado-Odo/Ota, Yewa South, and Sagamu.

In a related development, the Assembly also hosted representatives from the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service, led by ACG Abiodun Fayemi. The Speaker urged the group to integrate all hunters in the State into their activities, enhancing security coordination.

Additionally, the Assembly received a courtesy visit from the Ogun Central Chapter of the National Youth Association, represented by Comrade Joseph Toyo. The Speaker pledged legislative support for initiatives aimed at advancing youth development across the State.

The Assembly also commended the World Sustainable Development Goals Organisation, led by Engr. Rasheed Adeyinka, for championing initiatives such as quality healthcare delivery. The Speaker assured the Assembly’s support for the organization’s activities in Ogun State.
