President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Sunday for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will participate in the 19th meeting of the G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for November 18–19.

The Nigerian President is attending the summit at the invitation of his Brazilian counterpart and the current President of the G20, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that the summit would convene leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, including representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and various multilateral financial institutions.

The statement read, “This year’s meeting, under the theme ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,’ will focus on key issues such as combating hunger and poverty, reforming global governance institutions, promoting sustainable development, and advancing energy transition.”

Onanuga noted that Nigeria has consistently championed the reform of global governance structures, presenting its credentials as a viable candidate for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

The statement further disclosed, “President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit to advance Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms.”

The President’s delegation includes senior government officials such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
